The aim of the National Council for Competitiveness and Development is to plan and monitor the implementation of the National Competitiveness and Development Strategy by taking into account for its application the participation and acquiescence of social partners. Reassurance of the participation of all social partners with regard to the formulation of the Strategy's general axes, acquiescence and liveliness of all social partners for the implementation of the Strategy and the application of specific quantitative results. Monitoring of the Strategy's application, assessment of the partners' efforts and the effectiveness of the set measures, updating or modification of the Development Strategy. The main responsibilities of the National Council for Competitiveness and Development are:
- The elaboration of specific proposals and viewpoints on the improvement of competitiveness, the specification of general directives for its improvement and their alteration to applicable policies.
- Set proposals on the long-run, middle-term and short-run planning for competitiveness and development.
- The suggestion of specific policy measures with regard to competitiveness by taking into account information for regional and international case studies.
- The submission of proposals for planning of national and European development programmes. Through this planning, the Council takes into account specific policies for the insular and mountainous areas.
- The synthesis of proposals for the simplification of the legislation aiming to overcome the obstacles for the improvement of the competitiveness of the country.
- The regular information offered to Council's members with regard to the activities and decisions of the European Competitiveness Council.
- The ability to collect the decisions and viewpoints of the social partnes on the decision making procedure.
- The expression of its opinion on aspects of its specification, after a relevant quesion has been submitted by the Prime Minister or the Minister of Development.
- The institution of the Greek Competitiveness Monitoring System.
- The approval of the Council's annual action plan.
- The approval of the annual reports for competitiveness and their submission to the Prime Minister, the President of the Parliament and the Ministerial Council members.
- The approval and submission of special periodic reports for competitiveness.
- The approval of the annual reports' minutes.
